By donating grain directly to Indiana Wesleyan University, you can make a meaningful difference while enjoying potential tax advantages. When you transfer grain to IWU rather than selling it yourself, the crop sale is excluded from your income, but you may still deduct the production costs on your personal tax return.

Supporting IWU through your harvest is as simple as 1-2-3:

1. Notify the Advancement Services team of your intent to make a grain donation (advancement.services@indwes.edu or 765-677-1439)
   • This allows IWU to establish an account with your local mill or elevator.
2. Deliver the grain to your mill or elevator and transfer the desired quantity to IWU’s account.
3. Notify Advancement Services that the grain has been delivered.
   • IWU will then instruct the mill or elevator to sell the grain.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

To qualify for potential tax benefits, the grain must be transferred to Indiana Wesleyan University’s name before it is sold. IWU—not the donor—must direct the mill or elevator to complete the sale.

This process ensures that the production costs may still be deductible, while the income from the sale is not included in your taxable income.

If the donor gives IWU the actual stock certificate the following must happen:

• The donor must sign the back of the certificate, exactly how it appears on the front of the certificate and the signature must be Signature Guaranteed.
• The space between the words "appoint" and "attorney" needs to be filled in with National Financial Services LLC .
• A Certificate Release Request Form completed by the donor needs to accompany the stock certificate.
